Rise & Shine: Confessions of a Morning Person

As the sun rises and the world gradually awakens, I am already up and started my day. I feel as though being a 20-year-old college student, I would fall under the “night owl” demographic but I am definitely more of an early bird and I am 100% a morning person. There are early birds that still wake up grumpy and hate the mornings, but that is NOT me. While many may find it hard to fathom waking up early with a smile on their face, for me, mornings are a time of peace, quiet, and pure magic.

I rise between 7 and 8 every day, and never once do I wake up grumpy. Instead, I am filled with a sense of gratitude for the gift of a new day. The world is still and serene, and I cherish the moments of solitude before the hustle and bustle of the day set in. The gentle chirping of the birds outside my window is like a symphony of nature's orchestra, serenading me with their melodies and reminding me of the beauty of life.

One of the things I adore most about mornings is the opportunity to start my day with a routine. Something about having a routine for that first hour or two of my morning makes me feel well-prepared and grateful for the day ahead of me. I like to wash my face and take my time with my skincare, then go outside for a second and test the weather (the weather app is a lie), then make myself some food and coffee and have the chance to lounge around without being bothered. There's something so comforting and satisfying about savoring a warm cup of coffee, reading a book, planning out my day, and eating a yummy meal.

We all know the importance of breakfast and whether it's avocado toast or a simple bowl of oatmeal, breakfast is not just a meal for me, but a time to nourish my body and soul, setting the tone for a day of nourishment in all aspects of life.

The nature of the morning adds a different perspective of beauty to my life. The golden rays of sunlight gleam through the window, casting a warm glow, the fresh scent of morning dew in the air, and the music of birds. The quietness of the morning makes me feel like nature and all its components are preparing for the day ahead and allowing each other some peace and quiet.

The morning has a softer feeling than the night, maybe that’s why I like it so much. It feels kinder and safer, the comfort of morning feels like a warm hug from my mom.

So thank you to the morning for providing me peace and comfort, and thank you to the night for providing me the morning.

  1. I love your post because I'm also a morning person but the complete opposite kind. I wake up around 7am if not earlier no matter how late I go to sleep. I don't wake up grumpy but I do wake up wondering why I can't sleep past 8am on a Saturday. I absolutely hate the sound of birds chirping at dawn because I'm usually trying to go back to sleep. My morning routine is comprised of laying around for a few hours and I never have breakfast.

  2. I completely agree with this post; I am also a morning person. Especially since coming to college, I have found such comfort and safety in the morning. The way you described eating breakfast and doing skincare was perfect; they are such simple tasks that feel so serene in the morning.
